Joey Mouton

He went to college to be a Medical Lab Technician, but after a Christmas Break spent in a hospital, Joey E. Mouton made a polar switch to join the education field.

A graduated of Kaplan High School, he was his class treasurer, involved in the band's drum line, Boys State and was on the Quiz Bowl team.

In 1990 he earned a bachelor's degree in social studies, soon after he also earned his master's degree in guidance and counseling, both of which were earned here at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Mouton is the Social Studies AOIT teacher, helps with student council, and he also helps with Academic Lettermen.

He is unmarried with no children, but has tons of friends including a 13-year-old Dachshund.

Mouton, who has been teaching for 14 years, spent the last five years teaching at Carencro Middle.

Although, it was just down the road for those last five years, Carencro High School is a new place for Mouton.

“I thought it would be much more difficult than it actually is meaning getting to know my way around, all new faces and staff etc., ” Mouton said.

“I really enjoy how comforting the staff, students, and administrators all have been it has really made my transition here at Carencro much less stressful,” Mouton said.

His goal as a teacher is to ensure that his students most definitely learn “more from the time they step through his classroom door to the time they leave; I really enjoy teaching my students but I enjoy learning from my students as well,” Mouton said .
