Seven seniors seek to lead Lady Bear volleyball to success
Carencro's volleyball team is headed by a new face this season, but she is no stranger to the court. Kelly Brasseaux will lead the Lady Bear's volleyball team into a great season.
After being coached by Penny Gennuso for the past years, Brasseaux comes in after previously serving as the head freshman coach three years ago.
Brasseaux states that the seven seniors (Brandi Castille, Danee' Castille, Christina Langston, Amy Magee, Heidi Thibodeaux, Laci Weber, and Porsha Vallo) on the team are the key element to their success.
“They are a very close knit group. They are close on and off the court, when one struggles they work together to pick that player up,” Brasseaux said.
“We try to be the best leaders we can be by having positive attitudes towards everyone,” senior Laci Weber said.
Weber also says an important aspect is to come together as a team by learning to work together.
That positivism is echoed by Danee' Castille.
We are trying to stay positive and work as a team,” Castille said.
Castille added that going to the state tournament and beating New Iberia in district are two of their biggest goals.
Besides their attitude, talent is something the girls know that they possess according to Brandi Castille.
“Our team has great potential and together they could defeat everyone. Everyone has great individual talent that they bring to the team to make this season a very good one,” Castille said.
With attitude and talent, the change in coaching is something that team looks to for another boost.
“We don't feel as though we lost a coach, but gained one.” Amy Magee said.
“The team is really handling the change well and is looking forward to a great season maybe even traveling to state with her,” Magee added.
