Homecoming week provides fun for students
Each year as the madness known as homecoming week hits the campus of Carencro High School, members of the student council work diligently to make the week a fun and exciting time for everyone.
This year's events combined old traditions as well incorporating fresh twists to the week of chaos.
The students played games at lunch each day and were allowed to dress differently according to that day's theme.
Each class was allowed to decorate a separate part of the campus to exemplify their school spirit. Their displays were judged on Monday and the winner was announced on Friday at the pep rally.
Unlike the decorations, the school spirit portrayed by each class was judged all week long.
Every grade was assigned a day, a theme for that day, and games that they were to host at lunch.
The freshmen were assigned Monday, which was “horror day”. Everyone dressed in their favorite scary costume and participated in a mummy wrap at lunch. The juniors won this game at first lunch, but it was not played at second lunch.
Tuesday's theme belonged to the sophomores. It was entitled “classic day,” and everyone was asked to wear their favorite classic movie or TV character's attire. The sophomores dominated the sack race at both first and second lunch.
Juniors hosted Wednesday's “super hero day”. The students were invited to dress up as a super hero of their choice. The Tug-of-War games were not held at either lunch.
The senior class was assigned Thursday for “comedy day”. The juniors won the egg toss for first lunch, but the sophomores took the win for second lunch.
Friday was a jean day, and students were allowed to wear a spirit shirt and jeans.
At the Pep Rally, Friday afternoon, Blake Comeaux and Joe Coussan announced that the seniors were the winners, not only in the campus decoration contest, but for the spirit week contest as well.
Tacky Day, or Comedy Day's best dressed are as follows: Senior Porsha Vallo, Juniors Lacy Johnson and Josh Howard, Sophomore Brett Begnaud, and Freshman David Collins.
As for now, teachers and administrators can rest easier knowing there's a year reprieve until homecoming week is upon CHS once again.
