Super sophomores leading football
Kevin Faulk, Damian James, and Lucas Taylor were no-brainers to start as sophomores.
To think that one day 11 out of the 22 starters on the Carencro High football team would be sophomores, and that they would be the leaders of the team in many senses of the word, would be a stretch; yet, this is the reality of the 2005 season.
The 11 sophomore starters are Alonzo Landry, running back; Kydell Andrus, quarterback; Jervan Crowden, tight end; Marlin Eaglin, corner back; Mykel Francis, corner back; Lance Hayes, free safety; Trent Mackey, line backer; Mike Babineaux, free safety; Malcolm Taylor, line backer; Robert Wiltz, receiver; Nash Wyatt, center.
Landry has turned heads by running for an astounding 746 yards in six games for an average of 124 yards per game. His three touchdowns against New Iberia helped lead the team to a homecoming victory .
Andrus has also posed a threat to opponents at quarterback on the ground and through the air, highlighted by an 11 for 11 passing performance against Lafayette High.
Like Andrus and Landry who have been making plays with the ball in their hands , players like Mykel Francis who pour effort onto the field, or Port Sulphur evacuee Trent Mackey who brings his game experience to the table, all of the sophomores are finding ways to lead the team.
These boys show great potential and bring hope to this year's season and the ones to come.
