Volleyball winds down season

Due to the busy hurricane season, the Carencro High School volleyball team has experienced an upsetting season.

The Lady Bears have missed out on two important tournaments and two district games.

"It has affected our statistics, overall record, and playing time in preparing for district," says first-year head coach Kelly Brasseaux.

Despite the chaotic year, there have been two players that have stood out on the court.

Senior Brandi Castille leads the team in kills, blocks, and digs. Her intense playing is what makes her a strong outside and middle hitter and is considered to be a back row specialist and attacker according to Brasseaux.

On the season thus far, Castille has 161 kills, 13 assists, 11 aces, 142 digs, and 48 blocks.

Statistically, senior Porsha Vallo trails Castille and serves as another outstanding player for the team, despite an ACL injury she sustained in last year's basketball season.

Vallo is a setter and a front row attacker and currently has 50 kills, 125 assists, 20 aces, 33 digs, and 7 blocks on the season.

The squad's wins against Sulphur and Acadiana on October 18 and 20, bolstered their district record from the cellar (2-8 in district and 5-11 overall) and has provided the team with confidence and a fresh breath of life that they will take in the remaining games in the season.
