Lady Bear basketball team working through changes

by Cody Guillory

Things have changed for the Lady Bears this year but nothing is at a halt, the Lady Bears are going full speed ahead to fight to get through the season.

With the introduction of a new coach and new techniques, the Lady Bears have struggled a little bit.

The team is currently 2-7, but head coach Albert Hartwell and the Lady Bears expectations for the season are still one in the same, “To play together and come out victorious,” said Hartwell.

The team sports wins back-to-back wins over Lafayette High School and Rayne High School.

This year, the team looks to seniors Porsha Vallo, Desiree Pilette, Chatra Carter, and Kiara St.Julien and junior La'Travia Seriale to serve as team leaders.

The responsibility to learn and to grasp new concepts as well as learning to share positions are all apart of the team's growth that the five players are expected to lead by example.

The changes in the team have been noticeable and should manifest themselves in the upcoming West St. Mary Tournament.

The team is starting to play with a drive and a competitiveness and it will be interesting to see how they will match up against 31 other teams, Hartwell said.

“Overall the team is alright they are trying and that is all I can ask, for everything else you would have the ask the Lady Bears themselves," said Hartwell.

The Lady Bears' team joins the boys team, who plays Teurlings, as they play Cecilia on December 13.
